How do I play my deposition video in OnCue?

What files do I need for my deposition video? What is a sync file?

Can I create reports even if I don’t have video or a sync file?

Transcripts – Synchronized and Searchable

To play your deposition video in OnCue using page and lines, you need a synchronized transcript. What is that you ask? A synchronized transcript is the paginated and line-numbered text of a deposition synchronized in time with the associated video files (usually *.mpg or *.mp4) of that deposition.  OnCue currently accepts synchronized transcripts only in the “Sanction” *.mdb, "Timecoder" *.cms or the OnCue specific *.xml file formats. It does not support other programs' *.xml files at this time.

These synchronized files can usually be obtained from the court reporter or videographer of the deposition and are often included when they send you a disc or a link to your video. They can also be created by third party litigation support firms and some online services, such as Synchron (http://www.synchronvideo.com/).

NOTE: We recommend *.mdb files over *.cms whenever possible due to the inconsistency in their format.

OnCue allows users to edit deposition video that is synchronized with the transcript by using page and line number designations as start and stop points instead of beginning and ending times. It allows for fast editing and immediate playback based on the content of the transcript.

No Sync - No problem – you can still create reports.

If you don’t care about time estimates and want the reports, OnCue can take a plain text file or Ascii (*.txt) file. These files DO need to have page and line numbers to be able to create designations. Creating designation run reports with non-synced transcripts are the perfect way to make a script for reading testimony into the court record.
